One Big Move!

A New Chapter: Helping Dan Move

Dan and his family had resided in their delightful Portland Four Square home for almost two decades. The walls were decorated with memories—family photos, travel souvenirs, and trinkets that narrated stories of a life well-lived. However, life evolves, and we must adapt. With the kids heading to college, he decided it was time to downsize.

The Call for Help

Recognizing the magnitude of the task before him, he sought help. That's when I got involved. Armed with a plan, I went to their home, prepared to assist her through this major transition.

Sorting Through Memories

The first step was to sort through her belongings, a task that seemed both daunting and nostalgic. As we walked through the various rooms of the house, we were met with an overwhelming array of items, each one steeped in memories and stories waiting to be told. From the family photographs lining the walls to the well-worn furniture that had witnessed countless gatherings, it was clear that every object held significance. Together, we created three distinct piles, each representing a different fate for the treasures we uncovered:

  • Keep: Items that held special meaning and furniture for the new home.

  • Donate: Items in good condition that could bring joy to others.

  • Discard: Things that were worn out or no longer useful.

The Move

Once we had sorted through their possessions, it was time to pack. We carefully wrapped each item, ensuring her cherished belongings would be transported safely to the new home. Taking a few weeks to move small items and hiring movers for the big final move helped the process flow smoothly.

Setting Up the New Space

I had the pleasure of unpacking for the family and starting the setup process for the new home. Obviously, they were going to tweak things a bit, but I spent a day unloading all of the boxes and placing things in their new home, organizing as I went along. It was so much fun seeing what could be possible in this new space.

A New Beginning

Receiving feedback from Dan afterward was gratifying. It was fulfilling to know I had assisted them not only in relocating but also in welcoming a new start in a place that truly felt like home.
